Hey everyone - Sum 41 is one of those bands that brings up great memories for me. They have been one of my favorite bands since high school. I remember my brother and I had their 2007 album, Underclass Hero, on repeat when driving to high school.
I was bummed to hear they are planning to disband. The Canadian rockers have been a staple of the alternative music world for decades with anthems like “Fat Lip”, “In Too Deep”, “Still Waiting”, “The Hell Song”, and “With Me”. I will especially miss the combo of Deryck Whibley’s vocals and Dave Baksh’s guitar playing.
However, they’re not quite done yet! Before they fully disband, they will release their final album (Heaven :x: Hell) and undergo one final world tour.
In a statement, the band said, “being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.
Sum 41 will be disbanding. We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate. Details will be announced as soon as we have them.
For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumfuks on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us. Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.”
I’m excited they are still completing their final album and tour. I was able to see them last May on their tour with Simple Plan and they were awesome! They will be in back Chicago later this summer on August 26 at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre (Tinley Park) with The Offspring and Simple Plan, which I’m sure will be a great show.
While I am sad they are breaking up, I am grateful for their seven full-length studio albums (soon to be eight), three live albums, 26 music videos, one compilation album, four EPs, nine B-sides, and 24 singles. They will always be one of my favorite bands and I’m hoping maybe they will reunite again in the future!
See the link to their “This Is Sum 41” playlist on Spotify here. It has all the hits.
Have a great weekend,
Scott
I think we saw them together right?
